1.Energy: Energy is the capacity of doing work.
2.Sources of energy:
i) Primary energy sources:
The sources of energy
which can be used in the same form, in which they occur in nature, are called
primary sources of energy. Examples: Wood, coal, crude oil, natural gas, solar
energy, wind energy, dung cake, etc.
ii) Secondary energy
sources:
The sources of energy
which are derived from primary energy sources are called secondary sources of
energy. Examples: Coal gas, biogas, kerosene, petrol, diesel, charcoal,
hydroelectricity, etc.
3. Based on replacing
period, the sources of energy are classified as:
i) Non-renewable source
of energy
The sources of energy
that is stored in nature from several million years and cannot be replaced if
it is used up once are called the non-renewable source of energy. Some examples
are coal, mineral oil (petroleum such petrol, diesel, kerosene), natural gas.
ii) Renewable source of energy
The source of energy
which can never be exhausted and can be replaced quickly if it is used up once
is called the renewable source of energy. For example: Hydropower or
hydroelectricity, wind energy, solar energy, tidal energy, geothermal energy,
biomass ata energy, etc.
4. What is nuclear fuel?
Ans: The fuel used to generate nuclear energy is called nuclear fuel. Example: uranium
5. Give two reasons to justify that the use of hydroelectricity should be increased
more
than that of fossil fuel energy.
Ans: The use of
hydroelectricity should be increased more than that of fossil fuel energy because
a) Hydropower is
renewable source of energy but fossil fuels are non-renewable source of energy.
b) Hydropower is
pollution free source of energy but fossil fuel cause air pollution when they
are used.
6. What do you meant by
alternative source of energy? Give any three alternative source of energy.
Ans: The renewable source
of energy which are used instead of non-renewable source of energy are called
alternative source of energy For e.g. Hydropower, Solar energy, geothermal
power, Wind energy, Tidal energy, Biomass energy etc.
7. What do you meant by
alternative source of energy? Give any three alternative source of energy.
Ans: The renewable source
of energy which are used instead of non-renewable source of energy are
called alternative source of energy. For e.g.: Hydropower, Solar energy,
geothermal power, Wind energy, Tidal energy, Biomass energy etc.
8. What is thermonuclear
fusion reaction?
Ans: The reaction in
which two or more light nuclei combine together to form a heavy nucleus with
the release of tremendous amount of energy is called thermonuclear fusion
reaction.
9. Fossil fuel is known
as non-renewable source of energy, why?
Ans: Fossil fuel is known
as non-renewable source of energy because they have limited stock in nature.
Once it is used up, we cannot use again & again and takes millions of year
to reproduce.
